I live amongst those who judge without repercussions
They see and they hear yet still they reside in the same emptiness
Searching for myself within their confinements
I’m unable to find my true definition.
The world calls my name, requesting that I limit my distinguished nature
The nature which allows me to be myself within my own boundaries
I walk alone not because being alone contributes to my individuality
Rather being amongst many confines my ability to be myself
My hair hangs to where it may
Yet you request me to denounce the uncontrollable
My heart tells me what’s wrong
My mind guides my mental stability
Sure war wages between the two
But surely the scale will reach equal measures
I look not to you to mold me with your judgmental eyes
I head no selfish warning you press upon my brow
I find no satisfaction within your false comfort
I search not within you for answers
Rather I close my eyes and begin an excavation of my deepest turmoil
Knowing within this pain lays may comfort
Lays my peace
Lays my purity
Lays me
Thanks for sharing your poem, Jonathan. Do you write poetry often? Did you enjoy Jane Eyre? Can you relate to her character at all?
ReplyDeleteAtta boy Jon!
ReplyDeleteIts funny how I would never expect a tank like you to be so poetic. Especially, with this piece of work. For a male to relate and then write poetry about a female's thoughts is a talent indeed. I think I even recieved a better understanding of the themes of the novel from this poem. As Mrs. Elliott said, thanks for sharing this man.
When i first read this I legitimately thought it was written by an actual poet......but in reality it is. Your a poet and this poem was extremely well written. Your word choice, rhythm, and the way you made it reveal the theme of the entire novel was brilliant.
